At Hampton Bays High School many of our staff members have hidden talents and hobbies that you might not expect them to have.
Mr. Dulfon, and English teacher, has a hidden talent for solving Rubik’s Cubes. When asked on what is the fastest time he solved any type of Rubik’s Cube, he responded with, “I can solve a 3 x 3 Rubik’s Cube in under two minutes. I can solve a 4 x 4 Rubik’s cube in under seven minutes.” Mr. Dulfon says he enjoys solving Rubik Cubes because “Rubik’s Cubes have been around ever since I was born. I always wanted to know how to solve one, but I never learned how to solve one until I was an adult.”
An unexpected hidden talent our Childhood Psychology and Hospitality teacher, Mrs. Meyer, has is that she drives race cars for the Riverhead Raceway track. The car she drives is a street stock and the model is a ’77 Camaro with a Chevy 602 crate motor. She became interested in this because her whole family had raced at some point such as her grandparents, father, brothers, husband, uncles, and cousins. She said, “I’m the only girl. Born and raised around it. So I always liked to do what the boys could do.”
Mrs. Crucet is one of the counselors at the high school and her hidden talent is that she is a fantastic singer. She began singing with her twin sister at a very young age. They greatly enjoyed singing together and continued on with it in high school and college. They called themselves the name “Gemini” because they are identical twins. During the summer of their junior year of college their music was played on the radio stations WBLI and Party 105. Mrs. Crucet also said how she performed in many events. “We performed all over Long Island, Manhattan, Jersey, and Connecticut with artists such as Cyndi Lauper, Salt and Pepper, Deborah Cox, and many more. We were lucky enough to perform in the Mega Jam for Party 105 at the Brookhaven Amphitheater in front of thousands of people. We were asked to perform at a charity event attended by Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton and other celebrities.”
Chef Curtis teaches Culinary to the students of Hampton Bays and has a hidden talent of juggling. Chef Curtis can juggle three items at a time but his goal is to be able to juggle 11 things at a time. He juggles foods like apples, eggs, and cabbages. When asked on how long he could juggle for Chef Curtis replied, “I’ve never timed myself, but I’d say I could probably juggle for a solid three to five minutes, but who knows, with a little hard work, I bet I could get it up to 10 minutes!” He is unsure why he enjoys juggling and said, “I always thought it would be my back up plan if the whole cooking thing didn’t work out, I figured I could join the circus.”
