Whenever you walk through the halls at the Hampton Bays High School, you’re most likely going to be greeted by Ms. Boyle’s enthusiastic energy.
Many of the Hampton Bays High School students look up to Ms. Boyle as an inspiration, as she partakes in various duties at the district. She is loved for her dedication to numerous responsibilities, including teaching ninth-grade English alongside Mrs. Epstein, 11th-grade English, ENL classes and co-directing the school plays with Mrs. Perez.
Mrs. Perez, her co-director in theater, shares, “I love having her as co-director because we have fun together as she shares the workload, so it’s less stressful all around.” Mrs. Perez also notes that Ms. Boyle’s sense of humor and silliness help everyone relax and have a good time while working hard, making rehearsals enjoyable for both students and staff. She adds, “Her ideas bring her distinctive style into the show. She comes up with things I never would, which enhances the overall quality of the production.” She also states that Ms. Boyle has made significant contributions to every production, whether as a producer or co-director.
Not only do teachers appreciate Ms. Boyle’s positive influence, but students do too. Former student Mackenzie David says Ms. Boyle is always herself and very genuine. David remembers Ms. Boyles was a very energetic, involved, and confident person who inspired others with her positive attitude. David continues to state how Ms. Boyle was always good at helping people get along when there were disagreements, and instead tried to lighten the mood. Her first impression of Ms. Boyle was that she was very bubbly, full of energy, and very kind. She states that you could always tell she was excited to work with students and help out with the club, even if it was just with programs.
As Ms. Boyle prepares to take on a handful of responsibilities along with the theatre program, she continues to stay well-organized in many creative ways. Ms. Boyle manages her responsibilities by making checklists, asking for help from other staff, and noticing small details. When students connect life skills with lessons, she feels a sense of accomplishment. As Ms. Boyle says, “I enjoy seeing the growth of my students over time. It is a great feeling to see the confidence of students grow over time. We often get the privilege to see how creative, talented, and funny students are outside of the classroom. Overall, we have a lot of fun together, and our thespians demonstrate their drive and teamwork throughout our long rehearsal process. Theatre is very rewarding, and it’s fun to be on the other side of the creative process.”
Inspirations like her siblings, peers, and adults who she was surrounded by growing up, always gave her the sense of never giving up, regardless of what goes on. Ms. Boyle shares, “My siblings and I are pretty close-knit. They have always inspired me to be authentic and enjoy life even in its tougher moments. My siblings are super hardworking, and I think that motivation and effort to try their best in everything they do motivates me to do the same. We all lift each other up in different ways.”
As some students may be rebellious and very confused sometimes, Ms. Boyle always makes sure to keep in mind how she was once a teenager who needed support, just like students do today. Ms. Boyle enjoys reading, listening to music, spending time with family, and going for walks. She adds, “In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my family, treating myself to some local coffee, and reading.”
Ms. Boyle’s decision to pursue teaching over marine biology was shaped by her recognition that her strengths could have a greater impact in the classroom. Recalling a pivotal reading experience, she notes, “Engaging students with stories can open doors to self-discovery. I hope every student finds a book that inspires them to think differently or discover a hidden interest.” Her passion directly influences curriculum and student aspirations.
Ms. Boyle strives to learn different skills, as it makes people stronger, able to help all kinds of students, including those in AP classes and those learning English. She advises handling stress by taking deep breaths, stepping back from difficult situations, asking for help, and using her free time wisely to finish work and reduce pressure.
Through her example, Ms. Boyle inspires students to seek personal growth and foster resilience. Her theater experiences empower others to participate confidently, while her collaboration with staff transforms the theater club into a supportive and successful environment. As she says, “Being involved in theater taught me confidence. I want to create those opportunities for my students, so they leave feeling empowered.”
