Ms. Salas is a former Hampton Bays student who is now a new staff member at Hampton Bays High School.
When Ms. Salas first started high school at Hampton Bays she had Spanish with Mr. Carlson. According to Mr. Carlson Ms. Salas has always been a determined, committed and adventurous individual. Mr. Calrson said, ‘’I often had flashbacks in the morning when Nicole visited me with a ‘Buenos dias Senor Carlson.’ Nicole is passionate about working in Hampton Bays, and loves working with students in both Spanish and English. It seems as though things have come full circle.’’ Ms. Salas’s parents are from Costa Rica and her ability to speak two languages allows her to connect with all students.
Ms. Salas said that she liked coming back because now she is a part of the faculty and likes interacting with the kids. She said, “The best part…is coming back to the district I attended and instead of being taught, it’s nice to come back with a different perspective.” She also said, “It’s my community, it’s always about home, I always loved it here.”
Ms. Salas gets motivated to come and work, because she likes getting to help and she always wanted to be a teacher. She said that the hardest part is trying to get through to the kids and provide them with what they need as each kid is different. Even when things are hard she can interact with the kids easily. She makes good relationships with other people by just getting to know them and talking to them.
