Trying Out TikTok Trends
Gigi Hadid’s Spicy Vodka Pasta
April 13, 2021
During lockdown, model Jelena Noura Hadid, also known as Gigi Hadid, posted a video on her Instagram story of her making a spicy vodka pasta. In the pasta you can add vodka, but Gigi Hadid decided not to put any which had made lots of people suspicious and questioning if she was pregnant which later on had turned out to be true. In September she had her first child, Khai Malik Hadid, with artist Zayne Malik.
I came across Gigi Hadid’s famous vodka pasta on TikTok and it had been all over my Instagram feed. On Tik Tok, I came across two videos, one is a chef from the UK (@cookwithmariyah). She showed all the ingredients and the video got 496.7K likes and 5.2M views. The second video is a chef from Tampa, Florida who also made a video of herself making the pasta and showing the ingredients as well. (@mamainthekitchen). This video got more views and likes than the first one I came across. ( 1.4M likes and 12.3M views).
Inspired by Hadid’s viral video, I decided to make the famous vodka pasta and I loved how it had turned out.
Ingredients:
- ¼ cup of olive oil
- 1 small clove of garlic ( diced )
- ¼ of green onion
- ¼ cup of tomato paste
- ½ cup of heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon of vodka ( only if you want to put wodka )
- 1 teaspoon of red pepper flakes
- Gigi Hadid uses shells pasta but you could use any type of pasta of your choice
- 1 tablespoon of butter
- ¼ cup of Parmesan cheese
- Basil ( chopped )
- Salt and Pepper for flavor
Directions: While using a large saucepan, heat the olive oil, garlic, and onion. Cook until it is soft then start adding the tomato paste and have it cooking until the color is darker or how Hadid would say it “caramelized.” Then add the heavy cream (you can add the vodka if you want it in your pasta and cook till its evaporated), and red pepper flakes ( you can add more if you want your pasta extra spicy ). Keep stirring until it’s all combined. After you add the seasoning with salt and pepper, remove the sauce from the heat (you’re also cooking the pasta separately). Hadid used pasta shells but you can use any type of pasta you would like to use. When the pasta is done, save ¼ of the pasta water before draining. Add in the butter and stir over medium heat until the butter has melted and the sauce is, how Hadid would say it, “saucy.” Add the pasta and the pasta water to the sauce, then add the Parmesan cheese and stir. You can also add more salt and pepper for tasting. Once you’ve finished cooking, you can now eat.
