The new school year can welcome many new faces; not only are there new incoming students, there’s also new staff. Ms. Andriano has been looking forward to the new school year, mainly because she has new responsibilities that she hasn’t had before. Last year she worked as a leave replacement but has returned and is working full-time. Knowing that she is here for the whole year allows her to build a better relationship with her students. Getting to know someone is easier when you have them for the whole school year rather than knowing she’ll be leaving in a few months. She now teaches ENL Geometry and ENL Algebra.
Ms. Andriano is looking forward to the upcoming year including building the floats for homecoming, chaperoning the senior trip and all the homecoming events. Ms. Andriano loves the community that comes with working at Hampton Bays High School, and seeing her current and past students in the halls brings her joy.
When away from her students, Ms. Andriano loves to go camping with her family and says it’s a very different pace from how it is at school. Being a teacher has taught Ms. Andriano many things, but the need for patience has been the most evident. If she could say anything to her students it would be, “I am a human too, we can all have a hard day sometimes.” She wants to work with her students but also have a fun time with them.
Ms. Andriano hopes that this school year goes well for both herself and her students. She cannot wait to see her past students who are now seniors graduate. “It’s great to see that I was part of their high school journey.”
