On April 4 the Hampton Bays High School chorus and band made their way to the most magical place on earth, Walt Disney World, to perform music they have been working on and perfecting for months.
Band and chorus students had been anxiously waiting for their big moment at Walt Disney World since early 2024. Much preparation has been involved leading up to this moment. From fundraisers that began a year ago to the songs sung and the music played, it is clear that students and the coordinators alike were putting forward immense effort towards this trip. The band was dedicated to practicing their marching, between going to Suffolk community college to gain more knowledge on how to march, to practicing outside in 30-degree weather.
The marching band was the first to show off to the Disney crowds. On Saturday afternoon at Magic Kingdom, the sun was shining over the marching band in their purple and black uniforms as they marched around the partners statue in front of Cinderella’s Castle onto Main Street. The marching band could be heard from all around and they sounded great. The chorus performers lined up on the sidewalk cheering for their friends in the 90-degree weather. The day was beautiful and bright and senior Gissell Campos said, “The marching band did really good, they looked cool in their outfits, and it was nice being with my friends for our last year and enjoying our time together.”
On Sunday, a hot, yet breezy morning, chorus members went to Disney’s Imagination Campus to practice their songs for their performance in Disney Springs on the waterside stage. As the chorus walked up on stage the temperature rose and the pressure was on. All the practicing paid off as the chorus executed songs such as “Try Everything” from “Zootopia” and “You’ll Be in my Heart” from “Tarzan” among others. After every song the crowd cheered. Senior Valeria Gamboa said, “It was nerve wracking but I miss it so much.”
This trip was a combination of hard work and many moments of fun and happiness with many students expressing that they will never forget it. Their hard work and dedication was seen through their performances.
