After 21 years of teaching at Hampton Bays High School Mrs. Kops has decided to take on a new role: Class of 2025 co-adviser. Mrs. Kops graduated from Hampton Bays High School with the class of 1997 and when the opportunity arose to co-advise the Class of 2025 with Mrs. Facini, a close friend of hers, she didn’t want to miss out.
Mrs. Kops went into the job knowing it would be “time consuming” and was prepared to devote many moments to the senior class. She explained it was the perfect year for her to take on this opportunity because her kids are older and she has more time to dedicate to the extra role. Mrs. Kops was a class adviser a long time ago and participating in events from this side of the equation has brought her meaningful memories and a new perspective.
Being co-class adviser is not easy and there are plenty of factors that go into this job, one of them being spending more time with students outside of a classroom setting. Mrs. Kops doesn’t regret her decision because she has been able to work alongside students outside of the classroom, such as working the concession stand during football games, building the senior homecoming float, and setting up the Haunted Hallway.
Mrs. Kops is happy with everything accomplished so far and is excited for future events including the Santa Breakfast and Class Night. When she looks back on her high school experience here at Hampton Bays she remembers the events she used to look forward to when she was a student and hopes to create good memories for the class of 2025. Class Night reminds her of one of her favorite events from when she was a student, a competition between grades that was called Turkey Trot. Looking back on those memories she is happy to have come full circle.
