Chants of “GOOOOOOAL!” will be heard from MetLife Stadium two years from now. For those who aren’t aware, FIFA has announced the final location and date for the 2026 World Cup. Out of all the locations considered, the final match will be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on July 11, 2026.
Two other locations were in the running to host the final match, AT&T Stadium in Dallas and SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. This is a first for MetLife in hosting a World Cup game, much less a final. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and New York Mayor Eric Adams were thrilled by the announcement. Murphy stated, “As an advocate for this region, and a lifelong soccer fan, I am thrilled that FIFA chose to place their trust in New York New Jersey to host the historic FIFA World Cup 26 Final.”
Soccer fan and Hampton Bays High School sophomore Bryan Ovares, heard about the final match being at MetLife and thinks it’s a great idea to host it in New Jersey since, “It’s a big stadium with an electric crowd.” He would love to attend a World Cup game and even go to MetLife Stadium since it would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The first game of the tournament kicks off June 11, 2026 in Estadio Azteca Mexico City, Mexico marking the first time the World Cup will take place in three different countries: Mexico, Canada and The United States. Save up money and plan ahead so that you can possibly attend a game for the FIFA 2026 World Cup.
