It was announced on Monday, February 5 by Buckingham Palace that King Charles was diagnosed with cancer. The type of cancer has not yet been revealed.
King Charles has postponed public duties until further notice, and has begun undergoing treatment.
75 year old King Charles was crowned in only May of last year. He has informed his sons about his diagnosis. Prince Harry, who lives in California, flew to visit his father for a quick 30-minute meeting. He returned home within 24 hours.
The King plans to continue attending public meetings and doing his paperwork, being the Head of State. If he were to not be able to attend to his duties, the “counsellors of state” will stand in for the King.
If anything were to happen to the King, his son Prince William would step in for the throne, but according to an official statement from Buckingham Palace, the king “remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.”
